Cappies Award Winners Announced at South Florida Cappies Gala Celebration
The Annual Cappies Awards Gala presented by Publix took place in the Broward Center’s Au-Rene Theater on May 18, 2010. The Critics’ Awards Program, or Cappies for short, recognizes high school theater in 39 categories including performers, designers, technicians and critics. Students from 14 schools throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties took home awards and all of the schools performed on stage during the awards ceremony. Award winners were determined by votes from the students themselves through a weighted peer review voting process. Nominations were made by student critics from participating schools that attended each other’s shows to write reviews, which were then edited by theater educators and sent to the local media.
