FORT LAUDERDALE – Bestselling children’s book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler comes to life as part of the Family Fun Series on Saturday, October 31 at 11 AM and 1 PM in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for Performing Arts.
Children are invited to come in costume as they learn lessons of sharing, helping friends, teamwork and more when a witch and her cat get blown off the broomstick and a dog, frog and bird come to their rescue.
Pre-show activities, which introduce young audiences to the arts while strengthening kids’ reading skills, and post-show snacks are available during this and all Family Fun Series performances. Before each performance, there are activities presented by Young At Art Children's Museum and complimentary face painting. When the curtain comes down everyone is invited to a post-show snack provided by Whole Foods Market, McArthur Dairy and Blue Bell Ice Cream. Tickets are $14 with $3 lap tickets available for infants 12 months and under.
Children and families can also enjoy Trick or Treat on Second Street, Halloween festivities offered in conjunction with the Museum of Discovery and Science, Esplanade Park and the Fort Lauderdale History Center which take place from 1 - 5 PM. Ghoulish activities at the “Haunted Hill at the Broward Center” include the not-so-scary cemetery, storytelling with Princess Reads-A-Lot, a walking coffin and giant puppets on parade.
Begin your Halloween adventure by picking up a Trick or Treat on Second Street Passport. Passports will be given out at the following locations: Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Esplanade Park, Fort Lauderdale History Center and the Museum of Discovery and Science Grand Atrium. The challenge is to get your passport stamped at each of the four locations without getting tricked along the way. Once you’ve received a spooky stamp from each site, simply drop it in a winners box (located at each site) to be entered to win the Trick or Treat on Second Street Grand Prize. One lucky winner will receive the following grand prize: Four tickets to the museum exhibits and four tickets to see Disney’s A Christmas Carol: An IMAX 3D Experience® at the Museum of Discovery and Science & AutoNation® IMAX® Theater; a pair of tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts; and a youth “Learn to swim” lesson package, one tennis lesson and one Yoga or Pilates class courtesy of the Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department.
Trick-or-treaters can do the Monster Mash to Halloween-themed music and play old-fashioned carnival games to win candy in Esplanade Park. Test your accuracy at the ring toss, decorate a pumpkin, defy gravity in the bounce house and much more!
Your Halloween adventure continues in the Museum of Discovery and Science’s Grand Atrium where families will encounter creepy crawly critters, slithery snakes and play games to win treats. Activities in Esplanade Park and the Museum’s Grand Atrium are free. Inside the Museum Trick-or-treaters can explore exhibits including the new expanded Aviation Station and take part in the Museum’s GrossOut Science Halloween for the admission fee of $11 for adults, $10 seniors, and $9 for children 2-12. Inside the Museum, little ghouls and goblins can learn about animal insides in the Guts Lab, design ghostly art at the Activities Zone, see the Creepy Crawly Animal Show and witness a Pumpkin Drop.
Stop by the Fort Lauderdale History Center where you will encounter ghosts, goodies and pioneers. Celebrate Halloween in historic Fort Lauderdale fashion!
