The Performance Project proudly enters its 13th camp season by strengthening their partnership with the Broward Center, and expanding its array of artistic and educational opportunities. Summer Camp 2009 will be conducted in the professional setting of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This means campers practice in a 5000 square-foot rehearsal hall with wood dance floors, mirrors, barres and ample space to make acting and dance class more stimulating and expansive. Master classes will be given by Broward Center staff and union professionals. Professional actors and guest artists from national touring companies will give talks to mentor campers. At times, lunch can be enjoyed in the lovely covered courtyard, with its waterfront view. And, best of all, the final performance will be in the beautiful 580-seat Amaturo Theater - an inspiring setting for budding artists of all ages.

About Nina Felice
(Executive Director, The Performance Project School of the Arts)
A 20 year veteran of the professional performing arts scene, Nina has literally done it all. Following a career as a professional actress, Nina founded Performance Project School of the Arts and Theater Company, where she nurtures young talent by teaching, directing, and producing over 15 shows per year. At the Broward Center, she has choreographed and directed several high-caliber productions including The Wizard of Oz, Charlotte's Web, and five seasons of the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater degree and a Masters in child/family psychology, Nina's intertwining of the two disciplines has earned her accolades throughout her career.
* All of the Performance Project staff are required to be degreed adults with prior experience as a performer and as a teacher.

Daily Schedule
The first 2 weeks of camp adhere to the curriculum below. By week three, nearly 70% of the time is devoted to production. In week four, the entire time is devoted to rehearsals for the show. On the last day of each session, with the production behind us, we celebrate with a pizza party/color wars day. Lots of fun after a job well done!

Curriculum
MUSIC: (1 hour daily) In the first half hour, campers learn about vocal warm-up, vocal placement, breathing techniques, projection, rhythm, ear training and more. The second half hour focuses on specific music for their end-of-camp production.
DANCE: (1 hour daily) All three dance disciplines - tap, jazz and ballet - are taught. Campers discover how to properly warm up their bodies, learn key dance terminology and dance several routines.
ACTING/THEATER GAMES: (1 hour daily) In acting class (Mon. and Wed.) monologues, scenes, styles and on-camera work is studied. Tuesdays and Thursdays are "fun time" for all groups, with interactive play and improvisations, much like the TV show, Whose Line is it Anyway.
PRODUCTION: (1 hour daily) Campers discover what goes on "behind the scenes" by learning what costuming, props, lighting, sound design, set design and make-up are required for their own show.
REHEARSALS: (2 hours daily) Campers will learn blocking, choreography and theater terminology for their production.
FRIDAYS: Fridays are "fun days!" Except for rehearsal, we do away with structured classes. Campers dance, do lip synchs, karaoke to songs, talents shows, etc.

Young Professionals Program Overview
Summer Camp 2009 offers an exciting new opportunity for young stars of tomorrow! Not only will "Young Professionals" (YPs) offer teens community service hours for assisting younger campers, as they did in our old "Intern Program", they now get the chance to perform live on stage in six ticketed shows offered to the general public! The program has two, 4-week sessions. An accepted YP can sign up for one, or both sessions. A YP's day begins by assisting young campers from 9 am to 1 pm, then YPs practice their show from 1 pm to 4 pm. YPs receive community service hours for the entire day (7 hours). Broward County's Student Enrichment in the Arts (SEAS) program and the Broward Center's "Family Fun" series regularly feature productions from professional, adult theater companies. Now, due to the high caliber of Performance Project shows, our YPs have been chosen to join the ranks of these adult troupes! Accordingly, YPs will be treated like professionals, and expected to deliver professional-quality performances.

Young Professionals Audition Process and Dates

    Prepare to sing 16 measures of a show tune. Bring sheet music or a CD of the accompaniment (karaoke). Plan to read from the script, possibly learn a simple dance combination, and be interviewed by the director. All who audition are accepted into our program. The auditions are to determine parts. However, parts will not be announced until the first day of camp.
