AUGUST EVENTS PUT THE SIZZLE IN SUMMER AT THE BROWARD CENTER

The sounds of summer wrap up at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts this August with something for everyone, including the music of legendary Jamaican reggae superstar Beres Hammond, the Australian Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues’ John Lodge, Christopher Cross and K-pop girl band ARTMS along with family favorite Paw Patrol Live, crowd pleaser RuPaul’s Drag Race, the hilarious and engaging Greg Gutfeld and more.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents brings The Moody Blues’ John Lodge Performs “Days of Future Passed” to the Amaturo Theater as part of the Cleveland Clinic Rock Series on Saturday, August 3 at 8 p.m. Legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Lodge transports audiences to the live Moody Blues shows of the past and so much more. This show features all of Lodge’s hits from a career spanning more than five decades, including "I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),” "Ride My See-saw," "Isn't Life Strange," "Steppin' in a Slide Zone," and "Gemini Dream." He entwines tributes to his band mates from the Moody Blues with his renditions of "Legend of a Mind" and "Sunset," and, most importantly a unique recording of "Late Lament" by Graeme Edge. Lodge and his 10,000 Light Years Band perform with all of the spirit that made the Moodies' shows famous. This is a unique opportunity to see Lodge perform his Moody Blues hits and experience the passion and energy of their timeless music.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents Christopher Cross in the Amaturo Theater on Monday, August 5 at 8 p.m. as part of the Cleveland Clinic Rock Series. One of the most successful adult contemporary artists of all time, Cross is known for his incredible vocal range and energetic live performances. He made history with his 1980 self-titled debut album, winning five Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. With hits such as "Sailing," "Arthur's Theme," "Ride Like The Wind" and "Never Be The Same," he has sold 10 million albums globally, and has enjoyed great success on the Billboard charts with five top ten singles. More than 40 years after bursting onto the music scene, Cross continues his recording and performing career with albums “Take Me As I Am” and “Secret Ladder,” which evokes the artistry of such great singer-songwriters as Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman while addressing contemporary concerns head-on, a combination which is sure to please his loyal fan base.

Host of late-night program “Gutfeld!” and co-host of cable news’ highest-rated program “The Five,” Greg Gutfeld returns to the stage this summer with his comedic conservative-libertarian perspective when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Savelive present Gutfeld Live! 2024 Tour with Tom Shillue on Saturday, August 10 at 7 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater. It’s a chance for fans to see Gutfeld as never before when he is joined by special guest and comedian Tom Shillue for an action-packed evening of hilarious and engaging conversation filled with laughter and insight. With his signature wit and whip-smart humor, the six-time New York Times bestselling author, satirist, humorist, and magazine editor reveals what it is like going head-to-head with the liberal media, what it takes to flip the script on the comedy landscape and how challenging it is to be so charming and good-looking.

In a staged storytelling performance similar to an old-time radio play, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents Old Gods of Appalachia on Saturday, August 10 at 8 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. Based on the award-winning, critically-acclaimed audio drama podcast produced by Asheville, North Carolina-based DeepNerd Media, The Unhallowed Grounds: 2024 National Tour live show features show creators Steve Shell and Cam Collins, a rotating cast of professional actors, and live musical performances. With more than 16 million unique downloads since its launch in late 2019, the unearthly horror anthology podcast, set in the darkest mountains in an alternate world’s Appalachia, was the first professional podcast nominated for a World Fantasy Award in 2022, has won 36 Audioverse awards, and won Best Overall Podcast in the 2021 DiscoverPod Awards. This performance is not recommended for audiences under 12 years of age.

Calling all good citizens! The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and VSTAR Entertainment present Paw Patrol Live! Heroes Unite 2024, part of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Imagination Series, in the Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, August 17 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday, August 18 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The PAW Patrol yelps for help as they face their greatest challenge yet when Mayor Humdinger dognaps Robo Dog and clones him, causing chaos all over the world. It’s up to the pups to catch those clones, rescue Robo Dog and show that when the going gets “ruff,” anyone can be a TOP HERO when they lend a paw. Lap Tickets may be purchased for $10 for children 12 months and under and are only available at the Broward Center's AutoNation Box Office. Everyone in the theater must have a ticket.

Hair in the Spirit Inc. presents HITS on Fifth benefiting Heart Sista Inc., in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access program. The synergy of artistic expression is on display in this captivating showcase of dance, spoken word, jazz and haute couture, where every step, word and design contribute to a greater cause, Heart Sista, which is committed to providing essential tools and resources for women who have experienced heart attacks and strokes, helping them on their journey to recovery. Professional dancers performing ballet and contemporary dance routines choreographed by Radical Change Production bring talent, grace and emotion to the stage. Sponsored by All Dolled Up Salons and Stores, the high-energy fashion show features cutting-edge hairstyles and the latest fashion trends, demonstrating the creative artistry of top stylists and designers. Renowned poet Jasmine Green will captivate the audience with her powerful and moving spoken word performance, addressing themes of resilience and empowerment. The evening’s festivities will be accompanied by the soulful sounds of a well-known saxophonist, adding a touch of musical elegance. Broward Center’s Arts Access Program assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences.

The U.S. leg of the K-pop girl group’s Moonshot world tour comes to the Au-Rene Theater when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents the 2024 ARTMS World Tour, part of the Allegro Fort Lauderdale Mosaic Series, on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m. The girl group includes Kim Lip, Choerry, JinSoul, HaSeul and HeeJin under the South Korean Modhaus record label. ARTMS recently released its long-awaited, first full-length album “DALL,” an acronym for “Devine All Love & Live.” In the lead-up to the record, the quintet released four singles including “Birth,” the group’s first-ever original music release together, “Virtual Angel” and “Flower Rhythm.”

South Florida audiences will be treated to the soulful vibe and smoky-sweet, bourbon-on-the-rocks vocals of the undisputed king of lovers rock when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts brings Jamaican reggae superstar and music legend Beres Hammond’s Forever Giving Thanks Tour to the Au-Rene Theater for two performances on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Grammy Award–nominated singer-songwriter known as the "Otis Redding of Reggae" has a hit list that stretches for miles and includes the songs "Tempted to Touch," "I Feel Good," "Putting Up Resistance," "Rockaway," "No Disturb Sign" and many more. Born Hugh Beresford Hammond on August 28, 1955, in Annotto Bay, in the Jamaican province of St. Mary, Hammond grew up listening to his father's collection of American R&B (Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye) and jazz, and fell in love with native Jamaican music during the ska and rocksteady eras. His primary influence was Alton Ellis, and he also listened to the likes of Peter Tosh, the Heptones, and Ken Boothe. Part of the Allegro Fort Lauderdale Mosaic Series, guests are encouraged to arrive early to immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere by visiting Rockaway Village, a vibrant vendor village featuring an array of goods from local artisans as well as a custom menu of tropical drinks and Caribbean light bites from the bar at Marti’s Bistro.

High kicks and low splits will captivate audiences when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents Voss Events RuPaul's Drag Race Allstars Live in the Au-Rene Theater on Wednesday, August 28 at 8 p.m. RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars unfolds live on-stage with the return of fan-favorites Angeria, Jorgeous, Plastique Tiara, Roxxxy Andrews, Shannel and Vanessa Vanjie in this show-within-a-show highlighting the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent it takes for a queen to be an all-star. Presented by Voss Events in collaboration with World of Wonder and MTV, the line-up is subject to change. This event contains adult language or content and is intended for audiences ages 18 years and older.

The month wraps up when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents the return of Australian Pink Floyd Show: The 1st Class Travelling Set on Thursday, August 29 at 8 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater. Hailed as “the gold standard” by The Times in London and “the kings of the genre," by The Daily Mirror, the tribute group has sold more than five million tickets worldwide and earned the distinction of being engaged by David Gilmour to perform at his 50th birthday celebration. The Australian Pink Floyd Show gave its first ever concert in Adelaide, Australia, in 1988 and has since performed in more than 35 countries worldwide. The leading and biggest show of its kind in the world, this critically acclaimed tribute show has been astonishing audiences worldwide, performing the music of Pink Floyd with note for note perfection. Striving to reproduce the Pink Floyd experience and bring its music to new audiences, the show continues to include a stunning light and laser show, video animations, state of the art high resolution LED screen technology and other special effects. Large inflatables including a giant pig and their own distinct pink kangaroo accompany these visuals. Replicating music from every phase of Pink Floyd’s journey, from “Ummagumma” to “The Division Bell” and all albums in between, this tour reinforces the group’s dedication to the heritage of Barrett, Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason with a show that pays sincere and genuine tribute to those legendary Pink Floyd productions and is guaranteed to deliver a memorable live experience.

Also at the Broward Center in August is the International Ballet Festival of Miami: Contemporary Performance on August 4.
