JAKE SHIMABUKURO TO PERFORM AT THE BROWARD CENTER
Published: Feb 19, 2019
FORT LAUDERDALE – Hailed by Rolling Stone as “one of the hottest axemen of the past few years who doesn’t actually play guitar,” ukulele sensation Jake Shimabukuro will perform in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m. When a YouTube clip of Shimabukuro’s performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral, his career skyrocketed, landing him on the Billboard World Album Chart several times and leading to collaborations with Bette Midler, Yo-Yo Ma, Ziggy Marley and Chris Botti. The subject of an acclaimed 2012 documentary, Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings, he has elevated the ukulele from a beloved Hawaiian folk instrument to a world-class vehicle, fearlessly traversing boundaries and putting his inspired touch on everything from island standards, to popular tunes and classical symphonic concertos.
