THE BROWARD CENTER AND THE PARKER CELEBRATE IRISH, SCOTTISH AND CELTIC HERITAGE
Published: Nov 28, 2023
If you’re mad for great entertainment, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is not only getting its Irish up on stage but is also celebrating Scottish and Celtic heritage with music, comedy and dance with five spectacular events.
Donegal-based singer Daniel O’Donnell performs Monday, December 11 at 7 p.m. at The Parker. His latest, I Wish You Well, entered the official UK Album Charts at no. 16, and at no. 5 ahead of Taylor Swift and The Beatles on the CD-only chart and at no. 2 on the Independent Albums chart. He has now amassed 48 Top 75 albums, including 42 Top 40 albums, 30 Top 30 and 20 Top 10 albums.
Get ready for a night of real Irish comedy, accent included, as David Nihill: Shelf Help Tour comes to the Amaturo Theater as part of the TRUIST Comedy Series at the Broward Center on Thursday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. Having left Dublin, Ireland, where he was born and raised until the age of 22, Nihill got drunk on travel, living and working in 12 countries while visiting more than 70. His shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional) international drinking session(s) and being a mildly confused immigrant. Nihill is the winner of the prestigious annual San Francisco Comedy Competition (previous finalists include Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Dana Carvey) and runner up in The Moth's largest U.S. Grand Slam storytelling competition. He recorded his debut special for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019 and has been featured on TED.com, Amazon Prime Video, Sirius XM, NPR, Huffington Post, The Irish Independent and Ireland AM, among others.
The Grammy®-nominated Celtic Woman brings its new world tour to The Parker as part of The Allegro Fort Lauderdale Mosaic Series on Friday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Since its debut, global musical sensation Celtic Woman's concerts continue to capture the hearts of an audience that spans the globe. Both an accomplished recording ensemble and a world-class performing collective, Celtic Woman celebrates Ireland's rich musical and cultural heritage while continuing its remarkable legacy of introducing some of Ireland's most talented singers and musicians onto the world stage. A one-of-a-kind live act, Celtic Woman combines the country's finest musical talents with epic stage production to present a uniquely inspiring live experience.
For a quarter of a century Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance has been dazzling audiences across the globe with its unique combination of high-energy Irish dancing, original music, storytelling and sensuality. Now it comes to the Au-Rene Theater as part of The Allegro Fort Lauderdale Mosaic Series Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. Since its premiere 25 years ago, Lord of the Dance has become one the most successful touring productions in entertainment history, having been seen by over 60 million people. Now the show will go to the next level with this 25th anniversary tour and fans can expect new staging, new costumes and choreography plus cutting-edge technology, special effects and remarkable lighting. Please note Michael Flatley is not scheduled to appear in any of the performances.
Spend an intimate evening with the entertainer Time magazine called “one of the three most fun people in show business,” as Alan Cumming: Uncut comes to The Parker as part of the Browadway Concert Series on Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Cumming has performed in concert halls across the globe, including the Sydney Opera House, the London Palladium, the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall. In his eclectic career, he's played the Emcee in Cabaret in the West End and on Broadway, God, the Devil, Hitler, the Pope, a teleporting superhero, Hamlet and all the parts in Macbeth. His most recent projects include creating a dance theater piece about the Scottish bard Robert Burns, lip-synching the protagonist in a documentary, directing a podcast series about a sperm bank heist, playing a gangster opposite Liam Neason in a Neil Jordan film, curating a cabaret festival in Australia and recording a duet with a Gaelic rapper.
