Broadway blockbusters and family theater, celebrities Antoni Porowski and Tyler Henry, and music icons David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Bobby Weir, Jim Messina, James Taylor and John Mellencamp join Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Samantha Fish, The Young Dubliners, a tribute to Johnny Cash and an evening of student-performed cabaret in an exciting line up this February at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
An Intimate Evening with David Foster & Katharine McPhee comes to the Au-Rene Theater on Wednesday, February 1 at 8 p.m. Musician, songwriter, and producer Foster has won16 Grammy® Awards and had hits that include those from Chicago, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé. A Broadway and television star, McPhee is known from American Idol, Smash and Waitress. Now they bring their viral Instagram show to the stage to perform their hits and favorites. This concert is generously underwritten by Jeannette and Marty Engelmann and Goldman Sachs & Co. Tickets are $45-$79.50 with $134 Spirit Club Level seats.
Continuing last year’s tour celebrating the 25th Anniversary of his release “Trouble Is,” the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band and Samantha Fish perform in the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, February 2 at 7:20 p.m. Restless creativity has driven Shepherd ever since he taught himself to play guitar at the age of seven. With a musical career spanning more than two decades, his name has become synonymous with the guitar. Over the course of her career as an award-winning artist, singer/songwriter/guitarist, Fish has brought extraordinary power to her self-expression, capturing her inner world in a combustible riff, visceral rhythms and spine-tingling vocal work. With 30 years as one of the world's leading Celtic Rock bands, The Young Dubliners come to the Abdo New River Room on Friday, February 3 at 8:30 p.m. While several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind, the Irish influence is certainly there but it's not the only one that bursts through on their albums or live shows. The band has appeared twice on Jimmy Kimmel Live and had its songs featured in Sons of Anarchy and Human Target. The concert will be standing room only with limited seating. Tickets are $27 in advance and $29 the day of the show.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Live Nation present Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolfpack in the Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m.
One of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead, Weir has become one of rock's finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists. Bob Weir & Wolf Bros formed in 2018 by Weir along with
Dan Was and Jay Lane. The band set out performing the expansive catalogue of Grateful Dead, Weir’s solo albums and more and has toured extensively throughout the U.S. In 2020, Jeff Chimenti joined the Wolf Bros around the same time the band started featuring The Wolfpack, a string and brass quintet which brings an orchestral, symphonic element to the music of Grateful Dead and features Alex Kelly, Brian Switzer, Adam Theis, Mads Tolling, and Sheldon Brown. The band is also now joined by Barry Sless on pedal steel. Fall in love and get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day as Slow Burn Theatre company presents Honeymoon in Vegas - The Musical in the Amaturo Theater Saturday, February 4-Sunday, February 19. Based on the hit 1992 film, Honeymoon in Vegas is a hilarious new musical that centers on an unusual love triangle, featuring a wonderful new score by Tony®-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown. Mild-mannered Brooklynite, Jack, promised his dying mother that he would never get married, but that was before he met his sweet and beautiful girlfriend, Betsy. Haunted by a fear of mom's retribution, Jack avoids proposing but when he finally summons the nerve to whisk oh-so-patient Betsy off to Las Vegas to get hitched, a dashing gambler named Tommy threatens to sweep his fiancée away to a life of luxury in Hawaii. Realizing what he's about to lose, Jack is determined to do anything to give his love story a happy ending. It all adds up to an action-packed honeymoon that no one will ever forget! The 2022/2023 Slow Burn Theatre Season is presented by American National Bank. The Broward Center’s Winter Cabaret Workshop students present Winter Songs - An Evening of Cabaret in the Abdo New River Room on Friday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Led by Artist-in-Residence Tammy Holder and special guest instructor Adam Ross Glickman, this evening of song features material spanning from the earliest days of American musical theater to the current hits of Broadway and beyond. Tickets are $10.
The hit Broadway musical Chicago returns to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday, February 14 – Sunday, February 19. After 25 years, Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen. No wonder Chicago has been honored with six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy and thousands of standing ovations. Celebrating the 25th anniversary, it’s easy to see why the name on everyone’s lips is still… Chicago. Take a trip through country-rock history in an intimate evening with Jim Messina in the Abdo New River Room on Saturday, February 16 at 7 p.m. Messina performs songs from his decades-long music career, that spawned such hits as "Angry Eyes" from his days with Kenny Loggins, "You Better Think Twice" with Poco and "Kind Woman" with Buffalo Springfield. After a series of celebrated solo acoustic tours, Messina formed a band made of acclaimed musicians who have played with him at various points in his career. His latest release, In the Groove, includes selected hits from all three of Jim’s previous bands, as well as several of his solo works. Tickets are $85 and $125.
Celebrate the season of love with Queer Eye star and New York Times bestselling author Antoni Porowski in the Abdo New River Room on Sunday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. In this event presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents, Porowski demonstrates recipes from his latest cookbook Antoni: Let's Do Dinner, answers kitchen questions from the audience about everything from simple but special post-work suppers to casual entertaining tips, and divulges the secret weapons that get great food on the table fast. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 the day of the show and $115 VIP packages that include a meet and greet and signed copy of this book.
With one of the rock era's most distinctive voices, John Mellencamp comes to the Au-Rene Theater for two shows on Tuesday, February 21 and Wednesday, February 22 at 8 p.m. both nights. With his raw-edged, high-energy voice and persona and a repertoire of original songs that touch upon every aspect of everyday life, Mellencamp ruled supreme during the '80s with iconic hits like "Jack & Diane" and best-selling albums like Scarecrow, named one of the best albums of the decade by Rolling Stone. A Grammy-award winner and multiple nominee, Mellencamp was given the Billboard Century Award in 2001 and the Woody Guthrie Award in 2004. Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2008 and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. An accurate and energetic recreation of an American music icon, The Man In Black: A Tribute To Johnny Cash comes to the Amaturo Theater on Thursday, February 23 at 8 p.m. Born and raised in a working class suburb of St. Louis, Shawn Barker took a schoolboy love for singing in church with his family and turned it into a career as a one-of-a-kind tribute to Johnny Cash. Universally considered the pre-eminent Johnny Cash tribute artist, Barker shares an uncanny resemblance to Cash. His strikingly similar looks, voice, and spot-on mannerisms brings this legend back to life onstage for the fans of today and the next generation. Tickets are $45-$65.
Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital presents the Family Fun Series performances of The Tortoise and the Hare: The Next Gen in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, February 25 at 11 a.m. and 1 pm. The Tortoise and the Hare of Aesop's classic fable now have children of their own as they explore daily distractions in smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil' Hare in a whole new kind of race where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line? With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings the tale into a new brilliant light. Each ticket includes pre-show activities and are $16 in advance and $18 the day of the performance with $3 lap tickets for children 12 months of age and younger.
The sweet sounds of multiple Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor and his All-Star Band will fill the Au-Rene Theater with an eclectic mix of transfixing new tunes and beloved classics on Saturday, February 25 at 7 p.m. as part of the Broward Performing Arts Foundation’s 2023 Annual Celebration, presented by Dr. Lee and Brigitte Mandel, South Florida Sinus and Allergy Center. The archetypal singer/songwriter who helped create the template for the troubadour style that dominated the 1970s, Taylor blends folk, pop, rock, and soul influences and has delivered such hits as “Fire and Rain” and “Sweet Baby James.” In addition to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Taylor received the George and Ira Gershwin award for Lifetime Musical Achievement. Proceeds from the evening benefit the education and enrichment programs at the Broward Center. Netflix series star Tyler Henry, The Hollywood Medium, the star of E! Entertainment's mega hit television show Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry brings his tour Tyler Henry The Hollywood Medium 2023 to the Au-Rene Theater on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. In this life changing show "An Evening of Hope, Healing and Closure," Henry explains how he communicates with the other side. The evening also features live audience readings and an interactive audience Q and A. His incredibly accurate live readings of audience members often bring the entire audience to tears, giving them the hope and an understanding that "Our loved ones never really leave us." Tickets are $49-$79 with $129 Spirit Club Level seats and $150 VIP tickets that include an intimate Q & A with Henry from the stage. A professional photographer will capture a group photo from the stage for participants to download following the event.
