THE BROWARD CENTER OFFERS NEWSIES DAY CAMP

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts has added an exciting day camp and theater opportunity to its summer activities. Enrollment is also available for the second session of Summer Theater Camp 2023 later in the summer.

Children in grades 4-8 are invited to “seize the day” and sign up for the Newsies Day Camp on Saturday, June 24 at the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center on the Broward Center campus. Campers will enjoy a full day at the Broward Center that includes a dance workshop and theater games led by Broward Center teaching artists. Day campers will also attend a matinee performance of Slow Burn Theatre Company’s production of Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical followed by a post-show chat back with the cast.

The day camp is from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with campers encouraged to pack a lunch, snack and a water bottle for the day’s activities. Tuition for the camp is $150 with registration at @browardcenter.org/camp.

Spaces are still available for the second session of Summer Theater Camp 2023 presented by the Broward Center and The Performance Project School of the Arts at three different locations. Each camp session, regardless of location, will culminate in a live performance on a professional stage at the Broward Center.

The second sessions will take place at the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center (July 10 – August 4), the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center at Nova Southeastern University in Davie (July 17 – August 11) and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in Miami-Dade (July 24 – August 16 with optional extended camp on August 17-18).

Group A Camp has openings at the Broward Center and in Aventura for campers ages 7 to 9. They will enjoy classes in acting, singing, dance and arts and crafts before presenting Honk! Jr. Openings are still available at all three venues for Group B Camp, for ages 10 to 13 and 10-14 in Aventura, which features classes in acting, singing, dance and technical production. These campers will perform The Spongebob Musical: Youth Edition.

Classes are taught by professional performing arts teachers under the direction of The Performance Project School of the Arts’ Executive Director Nina Felice. As part of enrollment, each camper will also receive a Summer Theater Camp 2023 t-shirt and cast photo.

Camps are held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuition for the camps at the Broward Center and  the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center is $935. Tuition for the camps at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is $845 with an additional cost of $90 for the optional extension on August 17-18.  Before camp hours are available from 8 - 9 a.m. for $60 or $10 per day; after camp hours are available from 4 - 6 p.m. for $110 or $15 per day; or both before and after camp for $170.
