The 2022/2023 Broward Center Dance and Classical Series brings violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman with pianist Rohan De Silva to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday March 9 at 8 p.m. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, Perlman is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to the irrepressible joy of making music, which he communicates. American jazz-fusion band Spyro Gyra performs in the Amaturo Theater as part of the 2022/2023 TD Bank Jazz Series on Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m.  Over the last four decades, the band has released more than 30 albums garnering one platinum album, two gold albums and 13 GRAMMY® Award nominations. In 2019, Spyro Gyra released Vinyl Tap, reworking many of its favorite tracks from the vinyl era, including songs by Blind Faith, Cream and jazz saxophonist Oliver Nelson. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents bring Tommy Emmanuel to the Amaturo Theater on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. With six strings, ten fingers and a whole lot of tricks, this word-renowned virtuosic guitarist creates an orchestra of sound as he explores the bounds of what a single instrument can do. From playing down-and-dirty blues to classic Americana, this Australian performer can make his guitar roar, coo, hiss and sing while playing solo as a virtual one-man band. The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players perform the new and critically acclaimed production of The Mikado in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 12 at 4 p.m. At the heart of this tale is a love story: a beautiful schoolgirl loves the romantic wandering minstrel, but she is engaged to the executioner. This romantic triangle takes the usual course of thwarted love, until the arrival of a fearsome noble woman claiming the minstrel as her “perjured lover,” and later of the emperor himself, with his own list of punishments to fit the crime. The history and inspiration for the writing of The Mikado is center stage as the real life characters of Victorian London’s D’Oyly Carte Opera Company are combined with the imagined setting of Titipu as they take audiences on a fantastic voyage to a land where the timeless libretto, beautiful music, and all of the favorite characters await. This new prologue frames the classic work for today's audiences and underscores how The Mikado can be enjoyed by artists and audiences of all backgrounds. Broward Center teaching artist Marisol Morales leads the All Abilities Disney Sing-Along in the JM Family Studio Theater on Sunday, March 12 at 11 a.m.  No experience is necessary for families to enjoy this interactive and engaging arts experience for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other developmental disabilities. The Broward Center for the Performing Ars and AEG Presents bring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Lodge and the “Days of Future Passed” tour to the Amaturo Theater on Wednesday, March 14 at 8 p.m. The legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, performs such hits as "I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),” "Ride My See-saw," "Isn't Life Strange," "Steppin' in a Slide Zone" and "Gemini Dream.” With his 10,000 Light Years Band, Lodge also pays tributes to his bandmates from the Moody Blues with his renditions of "Legend of a Mind," and "Sunset," and, most importantly, a unique recording of "Late Lament" by Graeme Edge.Tickets are $39.50-$74.50 with $179 VIP package that includes a premium seat and other exclusives.

 

The Broward Center for the Performing Ars and AEG Presents bring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Blondie to the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, March 16 at 8 p.m. Co-founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, the band was a pioneer in the American new wave scene of the mid-1970s and regarded as an underground band in the U.S. until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next five years, the band achieved several hit singles including "Heart of Glass," "Call Me," "Atomic," "The Tide Is High" and "Rapture." Blondie has sold around 40 million records worldwide and is noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles that incorporate elements of disco, pop, reggae and early rap music. Martin Sexton performs in the intimate Abdo New River Room on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. Headlining venues from The Fillmore to Carnegie Hall, he has influenced a generation of contemporary artists and his songs have appeared in television series such as Scrubs, Parenthood and Masters of Sex as well as in numerous films. Called by Billboard as “The real thing, people,” Martin keeps fans coming back for more with his incendiary live show, honest lyrics and vocal prowess. Sexton is joined by special guest Matt MacKelcan, a singer-songwriter who has emerged from the southeast with a genuine combination of American soul and folk rock. Enjoy an Evening with Rick Wakeman in “His Music and Stories” in the Amaturo Theater on Friday, March 17 at 8 p.m. The keyboard wizard of YES will combine spellbinding piano music with sidesplitting jokes and revealing insights into his career. Audiences can expect an evening of superb musicianship, featuring music from YES, Wakeman’s own solo epics and early Bowie hits, plus fantastic arrangements of Beatles' tunes, and much, much more interspersed with knockabout (and sometimes bawdy!) typically British humor. The most exciting and innovative Black voices in Broward County take center stage when the Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents the second annual Rhythm by the River: A Festival Celebrating Black Voices from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at Esplanade Park, 32 E. Las Olas Blvd., in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  Co-presented by Baptist Health and JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Rhythm by the River features live music, dance, drama and spoken word poetry performances as well as interactive events for the entire family. There will be food trucks, arts and crafts and more throughout the afternoon as well as workshops at the Broward Center. The Smoogies, Gia Wyre, Tomothy Duke, Sizwe Collins and Jean Carlos Casely are featured performers with workshops presented by Darius Daughtry/Art Prevails (spoken word), Troupe Fall (drumming) and Pablo Malco/Developing Dream Foundation (hip-hop dance). Rhythm by the River is proudly supported by radio media sponsor Cox Media Group and will be hosted live by Supa Cindy from The Pac Jam Morning Show on 99 JAMZ and Rodney Baltimore, mornings on Hot 105. Rhythm by the River is part of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Arts for Action: Black Voices initiative presented by Baptist Health and JM Family Enterprises, Inc., which uses the arts as a catalyst to raise awareness, deepen knowledge and mobilize action on social justice issues.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way. Cameron Macintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins comes to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the Slow Burn Theatre Company production Saturday, March 25-Sunday, April 9. Everyone's favorite, practically-perfect nanny will take audiences on a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins, the musical delighted Broadway audiences during more than 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Get ready to experience an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft that will mesmerize audiences of all ages. The Broadway blockbuster play of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird comes to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday, March 28-Sunday, April 9.  All rise for Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork. The New York Times Critic’s Pick, To Kill a Mockingbird was called “the most successful American play in Broadway history” by 60 Minutes. Rolling Stone gives it five stars, calling it “an emotionally shattering landmark production of an American classic,” and New York Magazine calls it “a real phenomenon. Majestic and incandescent, it’s filled with breath and nuance and soul.” With direction by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, To Kill a Mockingbird, “the greatest novel of all time” according to Chicago Tribune, has quickly become “one of the greatest plays in history” according to National Public Radio. Emmy Award-winning actor Richard Thomas will play the role of Atticus Finch in the national tour. One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way. Cameron Macintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins comes to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the Slow Burn Theatre Company production Saturday, March 25-Sunday, April 9. Everyone's favorite, practically-perfect nanny will take audiences on a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins, the musical delighted Broadway audiences during more than 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Get ready to experience an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft that will mesmerize audiences of all ages. The 2022/2023 Slow Burn Theatre Season is presented by American National Bank. Performance times vary. Tickets are $49-$65. The matinee performance on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. will be open captioned in which a text display located to the side of the stage scrolls words in synchronization with the performance. Open captioning for Slow Burn Theatre productions is generously sponsored by the Amaturo Family Foundation.  A sensory-inclusive performance intended for kids and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 1:30 p.m. with tickes priced at 20 with $5 lap tickets for children 12 months of age and younger. The Broadway blockbuster play of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird comes to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday, March 28-Sunday, April 9.  All rise for Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork. The New York Times Critic’s Pick, To Kill a Mockingbird was called “the most successful American play in Broadway history” by 60 Minutes. Rolling Stone gives it five stars, calling it “an emotionally shattering landmark production of an American classic,” and New York Magazine calls it “a real phenomenon. Majestic and incandescent, it’s filled with breath and nuance and soul.” With direction by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, To Kill a Mockingbird, “the greatest novel of all time” according to Chicago Tribune, has quickly become “one of the greatest plays in history” according to National Public Radio. Emmy Award-winning actor Richard Thomas will play the role of Atticus Finch in the national tour.
